Restorative Practice

A positive learning environment is dependent on many factors, but a very important one is the quality of relationships that are developed and maintained throughout the school community. Restorative practice is a strategy that seeks to repair relationships that have been damaged. This could be between students, or a student and a teacher. At Marian College we embrace restorative practices because it allows staff and students to engage in dialogue that respectfully challenges individuals to reflect upon their behaviour and its effect on others. It offers a range of strategies that support an individual’s thinking, as they work together to resolve conflict or address poor behaviour. Restorative practices encourages those involved in conflict to recount what has happened, who has been affected and how, and what is needed to resolve the issue and move forward harmoniously.
